Carmelite Mission to Nigeria
Carmelite Invitation In 1988, the Discalced Carmelites were invited to found a mission in Nigeria. The Order was soon blessed with local vocations and now is a separate Region of the Anglo-Irish Province. The Carmelite Friars are in Enugu (Mount Carmel and St Theresa), Nsukka, Ekpoma and Ibadan. The Carmelite nuns are in Zing in Northern Nigeria and Owerri in the south.
CAPIO CAPIO (Carmelite Prisoners' Interest Organisation) was set up in the early years of the mission to care for the needs of prisoners and their families. It has become well known as a human rights organisation and is highly respected by the legal profession and other human rights campaigners ... more.
